about us
The Clay Chapel is a pottery and ceramics studio housed in a converted chapel within the conservation area of Weston Favell in Northampton. Refurbished to include all the latest high quality studio equipment, it is a welcoming, supportive, and creative setting where we can share the joy, benefits, successes (and mishaps) of making and creating with clay.
We offer a range of experiences, workshops and longer clay making courses. You can also become a member and book your own studio time for those who can work confidently with clay wishing to create on a regular basis. Follow the links below to find out more
lessons
Day-time and evening 6-week ‘Ceramics for All’ cover a mix of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques, surface decoration and glazing. Places are limited to 6 people, and are suitable for beginners and improvers. Courses cost £168, and include all materials and firing of up to five pieces. You also get free 3hr bookable studio session each week to practice.
Monthly ‘Sunday Workshops’ These relaxed creative teaching sessions have a different focus each month and are suitable for all, from beginners to those with more experience. You will have plenty of time to experiment and make at your own pace. Cost £65 including materials and firing.
Taster Session. For those not quite ready for a course, or who want to give the perfect gift, a taster session either on the wheel or hand-building are a perfect introduction. Cost £45, including up to 2 pieces glazed and fired for you to take home (approx. 3 weeks after your course)

If you’ve already done a course, or already have the skills and confidence to work independently with clay, then signing up as a member could be best for you. No studio set up cost! No more working at the kitchen table or in a damp shed! You’ll have the opportunity to work with others who share your passion, in a warm comfortable well equipped friendly space.

Making something on the wheel, or by hand is an experience that absorbs you mentally and physically – as well as rewarding you with a finished piece! We love creating unique, fun experiences for couples, friends, families and colleagues. Many experiences happen in the studio, but we can also come to you. Our biggest clay session to date was for 140 people!
‘Studio Take-Over’ You can book a 3hr half-day session for 4 – 6 people and have the studio to yourselves, with private tuition. This gives you freedom to design and pace the session around you – you can play your own music, stop for wine and nibbles, or even birthday cakes! The perfect family, friends and team experience. Price £30 pp, including all materials and glazing and firing two pieces per person.
